Listening to you

By Rachel Awes on July 12, 2018

This is me holding “Pond Life,” a painting I’ve wanted for a couple years, and knew it would fit in beautifully to our remodeled bathroom! I finally ordered it from the dazzling artist, Suzie Cumming! And I’m sooo glad I did!

“I am an English artist living and working in the South of England. I could probably write a book about my creative journey from a young child up until now but for now let’s just say that being creative is a huge part of m

After completing a Foundation Course in Art & Design I took a degree in Textile Design and Surface Pattern and in 2002 won a postgraduate award from the Arts & Humanities Research Board to study for an MA in Textile Design. Since graduating I have gone on to design freelance for the interior sector specialising in designing rugs and furnishings as well as undertaking commissions for art work and exhibiting extensively around the country.”

A yummy summer recipe!

By Rachel Awes on July 11, 2018

I just had to share my yummy breakfast! Strawberry butter on a gluten-free chocolate cinnamon bagel!

And add chocolate chips and cinnamon to the batter (not the seeds) for this sweet variety! Then, in a separate bowl, mix 1/2 cup room temp butter (kerrygold my favorite,) with finely chopped strawberries and 2 T. sweetener (honey my favorite) OR just go with the finely chopped strawberries! YUM!

All with love! XOX

A “Rachel doll!”

By Rachel Awes on July 8, 2018

I consider one of the greatest gifts we can give is to really see one another, and I am dearly & delightfully grateful to have received this through a surprise “Rachel doll” gift from my magnificent friend Kelly Lish! Swoon! Our loving reflection is powerful beyond measure, and I’m thankful for all my friends, near and far.

Kelly has her art listed online here: SHOP. I’m not sure if she will be offering dolls too?

I’ll be back to share about an upcoming event soon in Minneapolis, MN! With all my love always XOX

This glorious artist is Kim Simonsson:

I am in awe of his ceramic figures, currently featured through July 15 at The American Swedish Institute in MPLS, MN. I highly recommend stepping into this fantastical world before the exhibition closes if you can! You can also find his works online here: http://www.kimsimonsson.com/

Another exhibition coming to the American Swedish Institute (and I can hardly wait and I’ll be at the July 26 opening!) is: https://www.asimn.org/exhibitions-collections/exhibitions/gudrun-sjoden-colourful-universe

new summer art and photos: “wear a life you love”

By Rachel Awes on June 17, 2018

This new summer art is available, with love, here: http://rachelawes.etsy.com

Speaking of wearing a life you love, here are a few highlights from my recent family trip to Italy. Amazing food, landscape, people, art, everything! SO grateful!

Precious friendships

Cooking class!

Fabulous restaurant owner!

Favorite meal! A red beet risotto with berries and cheese.

Green rolling hills!

Inspiring art and architecture!

The beauty we love and wear and are, are essential to our heart beat! Most often, I know, it is expressed in the ordinary: adding fresh herbs into a soup, saying a kind word, kneeling down to hug a child. I share all this to send love into your continued journey of being who you are in full authentic color and choosing a life of joy with each breath you can muster. XOX, Rachel

I soon turn my attention to speaking about shining our authentic light, this Saturday June 23, at The Bohemian Enchanted Forest Workshop, held at Hawthorne Hill Farm in Berlin, Wisconsin! All are welcome and you can read more about it here!: http://www.vanessajohanning.com/

Listening to you

By Rachel Awes on June 1, 2018

This dear photographer is Kristine Ortega:

“It was the Summer of 1984, your typical hot and hazy New England Day.
I could smell the grass that had been mowed that morning. I could hear the traffic as it passed by. This is
when I knew writing would always be a part of my life. I was unsure in which form it would take, but I
knew stringing a line of words together felt like second nature. I remember the typewriter that I clicked
away at, transcribing my handwritten scribble. I had written ten poems with ease.
I always thought my poems were simple, not complex. I mostly wrote rhyming stanzas, but somehow
they worked. I would write about experiences, vacations, and special moments. I enjoyed telling a story,
with a beginning a middle and an end. At this time, another dozen poems were born.
Over the next few years, I would come across my poems covered in plastic cover sheets in an old wicker
basket, along with more of my writings. I often found myself reading them and putting them back,
knowing someday there would be a purpose for them.
Ten years passed and I was writing a book column for the company I was working for. It was bliss for me
to do the research for this column. This was only the beginning of where my words would take me.
During this time my new passion came to be, photography. Photography had always been an interest
but now I had found more confidence to move forward in this direction. I started with a film camera, and
moved into the digital age. I started with landscapes and nature, then moving on to portraits. This was
another area I found great comfort in. Therefore, my portfolio was created.
This brought me to every spare moment of writing poetry, exploring photography, taking online courses
and collaborating with other artists.
It was then, I realized what my writing and photography were truly for.”
Kristine lives in Boston, Massachusetts with her husband.

On magic and dreams…

By Rachel Awes on May 7, 2018

Magic finds you when you dress up for it

I’m thinking a lot about dreamy living lately… writing about it, inviting it, listening to it, wearing it.

You and your dreams are magical, and I wish you much breathing into them and living them. Where might you start? With a pair of socks, a first written sentence, tuning a guitar?

I’ll be back with new art, June 18, in commemoration of summer! (& include photos of upcoming travels too!)

See you then, with all my love xox, Rachel

Listening to You

This beautifully crowned artist is Maggy Navin

Maggy made this crown for a child:

& made this one for her friend’s rabbit!:

& also makes crowns for adults!:

I’m also gaga for her violet mug & other marvelous makings!:

And here are some words from Maggy:
“Through my artistic practice, I seek to serve mother nature and acknowledge my most inner self with playfulness and reverence, with the belief that the objects we surround ourselves with can reflect our deepest values and to normalize socially sustainable/regenerative creation and consumption as a way to empower ourselves, support makers, and heal humanity!
Last Christmas, I ran a handmade gift drive called Peace by Hand which gifted one of a kind handmade creations to Chicago’s south side community, including: blankets, baby hats, soap, jewelry, crowns, and ceramics. The idea behind that initiative encompasses everything I believe: that handmade creations empower peace within ourselves, our community, and our world.”
You can find all this and more in her SHOP, WEBPAGE, & INSTAGRAM worlds!

By Rachel Awes on April 2, 2018

You are invited to The Bohemian Enchanted Forest Workshop at Hawthorne Hill Farm in New Berlin, Wisconsin, June 23, 2018! This will be a day of energizing sisterhood, beginning with my offering a serenade about shining your light (I’m realizing I really am more of a “serenader” than a “speaker” ) ~ followed with beautiful food & a private artist pop-up shop & a gift bag (including a signed book by me  ) & a whole day of creativity & art supplies included, facilitated by women you will LOVE, Vanessa KiKi Johanning & Bonnie Lynn Loduha! Boho or Bohemian means having informal and unconventional social habits, and may just be another way of saying: Come as you are.

Space will be limited to 40 people and you can inquire further by emailing Vanessa at Bepoztv@mac.com

Speaking of “Come as you are,” newborn babes know how to do this well! (Here is my new lamb bundle great niece, Elin, who I had the great honor and pure bliss of meeting yesterday!)

All with love to you, and encouragement for the care of your most precious being xox
