seeing through these eyes

By Rachel Awes on January 13, 2011

our 12 year old, sam, told me he was thinking about something he knew i’d like but wasn’t so sure about telling me. i said pleeeeeeeeease tell me & bribed him with a back scratch.
it worked & i wrote it alongside this drawing.
i made the hair on this illustration curly & full in honor of him…but i still can’t help but draw figures mostly in the female form!
love to all you see & hear & are. xo

I am always amazed at the insights that I gather from my children, and how the bring me right back out of my mind and into my body in the simplest of ways. Thank you so much for your encouraging words about our move over on my blog! xoFaith

Beautiful statement and moment between you and your son. I think this should be part of a series on the senses.
    *listening through these ears
    *smelling through this nose
    *feeling through these hands
*tasting through this mouth/these buds (taste buds!)
Maybe this concept/idea will evolve in its own way?

As always, thank you for sharing your perspective, Rachel.

  18. Oh Sam, Sam, Sam – what does the Lord have in mind for you? Keep seeing and thinking and wondering and following – and we’ll be watching. And Rachel – I’d love to see your drawings of the beautiful “other” gender. This was precious!

  29. Oh! Goosebumps! Can’t believe you pulled that out of him! No, wait, of course I can!!! Yesterday, my guy was so sad and I finally got him to reveal his thoughts: “I’m sad because I think some things are missing from life and I don’t know what they are.” I think my heart collapsed when he said it!
