soul sister

By Rachel Awes on February 2, 2015

i was given a spoken word/music piece to create art alongside, + so were ten others at woodland hills church here in st. paul, mn. the delightful reception was last friday + here are a few snapshots of this special evening. the piece i was given was called “soul sister” + here were my three visual responses to it:

soul planted deep copy

intense in her gentleness copy

love is copy

soul sister by marsyl warren

spiritual ninja, underground warrior. her strength appearing out of vapor. soul planted deep. intense in her gentleness. love is her razor-like purpose. the strength of her mettle. forged by life’s mystery. i witness the slowly rising beauty. of turbulent springs of creativity. knowing and knowing. artist to artist. unspoken likeness. and intuitive harmony. yet two strengths, two spirits. gifts unique and shared. a page is turning. so the story continues. the book unfinished. the writer of all. is still working.
