A therapy client was considering leaving his job but didn’t want to talk about it further because he wanted to allow for his defenses. Acknowledging his courageous thought was enough. He didn’t want to make plans and go full steam ahead on everything. He was selecting pockets of protection and retreat.
Another told me she was working on not listening during her four-hour meetings at work that weren’t life-giving.
As long as we don’t cause harm, might we consider adding this kind of ambition to our self-care list?
